MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - MARCH 17: Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid applauds the fans prior to the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Round of 16 Second Leg match between Manchester City FC and Real Madrid CF at City of Manchester Stadium on March 17, 2026 in Manchester, England. The Spanish powerhouse earned a 2-1 victory over Manchester City, but advanced forward with a 5-1 victory on aggregate.
Manchester City’s day got incredibly more difficult in the 20th minute when Bernardo Silva inexplicable stuck his elbow out to block a shot while standing on the near post. At that point, the game was effectively over and Real Madrid took its next step toward its goal of winning the Champions League. Vinícius Júnior sandwiched two goals around one from Manchester City star Erling Haaland to put a cherry on top of the game for Real Madrid, which has looked much stronger at this stage of the season than it did under former coach Xabi Alonso.
Whatever Álvaro Arbeloa is selling, the Real Madrid players are buying it. With Bayern Munich holding a 6-1 edge over Atalanta on aggregate entering Wednesday’s second leg, many are considering a win in this tie to be a foregone conclusion and are prepping for a mega showdown between the Bavarians and Los Blancos.
