" NASCAR announced on Tuesday it's suspended Truck Series driver Daniel Dye indefinitely in response to homophobic comments made by Dye on a live stream. He has also been suspended by his team, Ram Trucks factory partner Kaulig Racing.
Dye's comments came during a live video hosted by fellow NASCAR development driver Brent Crews on the live streaming and shopping site Whatnot. In the clip that has since been shared widely on social media , Dye shared an anecdote about a conversation he had with Penske IndyCar driver David Malukas during promotion ahead of the combined IndyCar and NASCAR Trucks race weekend at St. Petersburg.
Despite the story being about Dye's own confusion over who Malukas was, he then takes a strange turn into what he later calls a "David Malukas gay voice" as he repeats the name of many-time championship-winning NASCAR and IndyCar team owner Roger Penske. View this post on Instagram The Kaulig driver shared an apology on social media on Tuesday afternoon. In the statement, he says that he "chose [his] words poorly" and "understand why it upset people.
" He mentions his "close friends in the LGBTQ+ community" and adds that he is "taking this seriously and being more aware and respectful moving forward. " NASCAR's announcement of the suspension notes that Dye will be required to complete a sensitivity training before he returns to the series. Dye was previously suspended from the NASCAR-owned ARCA series in 2022 after an incident where he allegedly punched a classmate in the groin , leading to a diagnosis of a possible ruptured testicle.
