Saints' Defensive Back Sets Up For Another Dominant Year
The NFL announced Saints defensive back Beanie Bishop has been suspended to start the 2025 season. He'll have to watch the first three games from home
Beanie Bishop will have to watch the New Orleans Saints ' first three games from home. On Tuesday, the NFL announced that Bishop has been suspended for the first three games of the 2025 regular season. While he's eligible to practice with the team throughout the summer and participate in each of their three preseason games, Bishop will have to sit out the start of the regular season without pay.
The NFL did not say which policy he violated to prompt this suspension. Bishop played college football West Virginia before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2024. Primarily playing in the slot, he came away with four interceptions and was named Defensive Rookie of the Month for October but was let go during 2025 roster cuts.
After initially signing with the Steelers practice squad, he was let go in November and signed with the Saints practice squad a month later. They liked what they saw at practice enough to invite him to training camp this summer after the season ended. He figures to compete for Alontae Taylor's old job manning the slot in Brandon Staley's nickel defense, but missing three games to start the season shouldn't hurt his chances too much.
It's a long season, and if the Saints decide by September that Bishop is a good fit, they'll wait out his suspension. It's on him to prove his performance is worth that inconvenience. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: New Orleans Saints DB Beanie Bishop suspended for 3 games
