The Reds did that because they viewed Kerkez as someone who could lock down the position long-term. He was their pick to replace Andy Robertson and their pick as the future in the role. However, it seems Liverpool may be ready to move on from Kerkez as their big bet at left-back.

Much as with Brown, Liverpool are only going to drop serious money on a left-back if the arriving player is their first-choice. Neither Hall nor Brown would move for big money to be a backup. It does all suggest a lack of faith in Kerkez as the ultimate pick.
