The Minnesota Vikings have found their new starting quarterback in Kyler Murray . With some luck, he might even become the team’s next franchise quarterback. Of course, J.
J. McCarthy may have something to say about that. For now, the Vikings have somewhat of a complete QB depth chart with Murray installed as QB1 (even if the team dubs it as a competition with McCarthy), McCarthy as the backup/developmental potential long-term solution, plus 2025 undrafted signee Max Brosmer as the third-string developmental prospect.
Yet, there’s still a sense that the Vikings want a player who’s more experienced to add to their QB room, and there are several options still available in free agency. That includes a familiar face who already knows coach Kevin O’Connell’s playbook. According to The Athletic ‘s Alec Lewis , there is “mutual interest” between Carson Wentz and the Vikings.
Wentz is a free agent after starting five games for the Vikings in 2025, leading them to a respectable 2-3 record in the process. “Previous seasons prove why it’s essential to have three capable quarterbacks,” Lewis wrote. “Carson Wentz, who played 300 snaps for the Vikings in 2025, would be the likeliest candidate.
