New Headline: Wildcats Crush Champions in Epic Brighton Clash!
Michigan State got its second football commitment of the day with Brighton offensive tackle Jack Carlson. Carlson, a 6-foot-7, 250-pound prospect, visited on Monday and Tuesday and chose the Spartans over Northwestern, Iowa State, Cincinnati and others. He joins Ohio quarterback Eli Stumpf, who also committed Tuesday .
“Overall, Coach Fitz’s message was that they think I’m a great athlete and they want good people and good athletes from the state of Michigan in their program,” Carlson said. “He’s very excited about the direction that MSU is headed. And on a more personal level he’d like to have me be a Spartan.
” Carlson was more of a defensive line recruit when he started his high school career and has transitioned into an offensive tackle. His 83. 5-inch wingspan and frame make him a major recruit.
“He was 190 pounds and wrestled, and that contributed to more weight loss,” Brighton offensive line coach Brendan Klaus said. “He came into his own later in the season. I wasn’t on the staff at this point, but later in season, he repped on offense and they thought he could develop into an elite offensive lineman so he started putting on weight.
He started all the games last season at that position and developed into a much better player. He saw the vision and stuck it out. ” This offseason, the focus has been on taking the next steps as an offensive lineman after getting started last season.
