New Headline: Eli Stumpf Lights Up Prospects Bowl as MSU Sees Red 1-0 in 2023 NFL Draft Contention
Michigan State now has three commitments in their 2027 class.
Michigan State received a commitment from Sunbury (Ohio) Big Walnut quarterback Eli Stumpf on Tuesday. Stumpf came in Monday evening to visit with the staff and take a facilities tour, then stayed until Tuesday morningโs first spring practice of the Pat Fitzgerald era. He then met with Fitzgerald and the staff and gave his commitment.
A 6-foot-5, 185-pound junior, Stumpf led his team to a 12-2 record and the state semi-finals in the fall. He completed 69-percent of his passes with 2,436 yards of total offense and 31 touchdowns to only two interceptions. As a sophomore, he completed 70% of his passes with 2,120 yards and 22 touchdowns.
He is also a very good basketball player. His father is the head basketball coach at Big Walnut and his quarterback trainer Brad Maendler of QB Excelerate has noted his mature approach to improvement and working on his craft. โIโve been doing this 29 years and there are kids who want to get it where they canโt ever get it wrong,โ Maendler said .
โEli has this intensity about wanting to get better. There is a difference between being a thrower and being a passer and heโs on a track of being a passer. โ More: Sights and sounds: Michigan State football's first practice with Pat Fitzgerald Stumpf visited Michigan State last spring as well.
