Celtics Dominate Suns in Electric NBA Showdown!
The Celtics pushed the right buttons in crunch time of Monday's win over the Suns.
BOSTON — The Celtics played their first crunch time game of the season Monday night with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown back on the floor together. The test couldn’t have gone much better for Boston, as the hosts outscored the Suns 14-2 over the final 4:46 on their way to a 120-112 comeback victory at TD Garden. Whether Jaylen Brown (41 points) and Jayson Tatum (21 points) co-exist again without issues has been a popular topic among national pundits but there were no issues with the hierarchy for at least one night.
Brown scored 18 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter as Boston’s offense ran through the star forward as he piled up points in the paint and at the foul line. “They’re a tough, physical team, and [Jaylen] didn’t play the last time, and so we played a little bit differently in that game,” Joe Mazzulla said. “And I think this game, his ability to spread the floor, get into the paint, make plays for himself or others, combat their physicality with offensive physicality and drives, I thought he took that challenge on.
I thought he was great in it. ” With Brown leading the way down the stretch, Tatum re-entered the game midway through the fourth quarter in an unfamiliar crunch time assignment. He played the role of an overqualified supporting piece, spacing the floor, providing strong defense and solid work on the glass.
He took just two field goal attempts in the period compared to seven for Brown, who also had 10 free throw attempts in the period.
