Master Your Mettle: Unleash The Future Of Softball With Tech-Powered Bats!
This weekend vs. Duke stands as a chance to get a solid tournament team
In 2025, Georgia Tech Softball sat in a very delicate position when it came to their postseason hopes. After some brutal losses to Eastern Kentucky, North Texas, Mississippi State, and Kentucky, they turned a corner we hadn’t often seen in the recent years of the Aileen Morales era and posted a string of fantastic ranked wins over #18 Stanford, #22 Auburn, and most impressively over #15 Oklahoma State. Those wins did just enough for the Jackets to make the 2025 NCAA Tournament as a Last Four In team (where they came out winless against FAU and Mercer), but it was the indicator we were looking for that despite the 27-24 record last year, this team had what it took to make a leap.
As we sit 30 games into the 2026 season with a date against Georgia tomorrow (3/18), Tech is in a similar situation, but already with some key wins and enough ammunition to create real hope that Tech will make it further this year. The Jackets have won games against #25 Clemson and #14 Virginia, both on the road and posting very close losses in other games against them (including a 2 out, bottom of the 7th walk-off homer against Clemson). Blemishes against Troy and UAB aren’t great, but aren’t so big detractors to take them out of NCAA Tournament contention this season.
Our friends at PEARatings do a stellar job with softball/baseball bracketology amongst so many other tools to play around with. According to their ratings, Tech sits 38th in NET and once again as a Last Four In team. But this season, I posit that they will finish above that Last Four In line.
Tech has a 70% chance to win at least one game against #25 Duke this coming weekend. Given the pitching led by Madalyn Johnson kept Clemson to no more than 4 runs scored in a single game, Tech has what it takes to take at least a game from just about anybody in the ACC. Duke hasn’t exactly been running over non-Q4 teams, there’s at least one win waiting to be had here.
