Treble-winner suggests Carrick should avoid fans’ pleas and exclude revitalised star from his XI for Bournemouth trip Despite Benjamin Sesko being one of the most in-form frontmen in world football right now, Peter Schmeichel believes he’s not currently ready to be a starting No. 9. There have been calls for the Slovenian to return to Michael Carrick’s starting line-up for Manchester United’s trip to Bournemouth on Friday night following his late contribution to seal the side’s win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY Sesko is proving he’s deserving of more game time For the clash with the Villans, Sesko had dropped to the bench for the first time in two games, having been trusted to make an impact from the off against Crystal Palace and Newcastle United, with Amad Diallo sacrificed to make way. Carrick then reverted back to his preferred XI over the weekend, instead introducing the Slovenian to the fray in place of Bryan Mbeumo in the 77th minute.

It marked his seventh goal in his last nine Premier League appearances – four of which have come as a substitute. Alas, with Bournemouth boasting a 10-game unbeaten streak heading into matchweek 31, you can understand supporters wanting United to set up to be as lethal as possible up front, and adding Sesko to the mix certainly wouldn’t do any harm.

That being said, Schmeichel has suggested Carrick might be better off utilising the same tactical plan (bringing the youngster on in the second half) that he managed on Sunday afternoon. “It’s great to have players where you think, when they come on, that there’s a chance, a very, very good chance, that they’re going to score,” Schmeichel said of Sesko to Viaplay at full-time, as cited by the Metro .

“He’s got great instincts, and we’ve seen this now in the last eight or nine games. His instincts are very good. “I’m not sure he’s completely ready to be a starting number nine in every game, so I thought it was quite good of Michael Carrick to keep him on the bench and keep him hungry.
