Kentucky’s Mark Pope's Big Game vs. NCAA Madness is On!
An answer to a question we have all been asking.
Kentucky coach Mark Pope works the sideline against Florida during their quarterfinal game of the 2026 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. , Friday, March 13, 2026. | DENNY SIMMONS / THE TENNESSEAN / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Kentucky Wildcats are getting geared up for their Round-of-64 game on Friday as they head to St.
Louis to face off with the Santa Clara Broncos. A popular upset pick for many sports fans across the country, this Kentucky team is hoping it can make an improbable run to place itself back into the Sweet 16 or better in Mark Pope’s second season in Lexington. With all of the NCAA Tournament talk circling the program after a disappointing year, more head-scratching came after the team and staff did not host a watch party or have any media availability during Selection Sunday.
Coach Pope got asked about that during his Monday night radio show, and had this to say in response: “It’s actually the only moment we’ve had the entire season where it has just been us, and it just gave us an evening, a short evening, to kind of have some very personal, private conversations and to take in the moment. ” Let’s hope taking in that moment can help push the Cats through a tough first weekend. If not, the page then turns to a very important offseason that will likely define the Mark Pope era.
