The American ended the tournament five shots behind the winner, Cameron Young, after producing a much stronger performance than the week before. It was only Thomas’s second event since returning from injury, making the result particularly pleasing after he missed the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a rusty display.
After the tournament, Thomas admitted he was proud of the progress he had made since undergoing surgery. The American is now preparing for the Valspar Championship, one of the next stops on the PGA Tour schedule.
“Time to sharpen up a few things and do a quick reset before hitting one of my favorite courses of the year,” he added. “On to the Valspar Championship. ” After a difficult return at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Thomas’ performance at The Players indicates his form is moving in the right direction as he continues his comeback.
