New Headline: Panthers Secure National Title After PSU Hockey Team Completes 100-Game Victory Run!
Penn State’s men’s hockey team is sliding backward into the NCAA tournament, but they still got a strong ranking in the latest USCHO poll.
Penn State’s men’s hockey team has been trending in the right direction for a while, having won 20 games or more in three of the last four seasons. There’s no way around it, though — this year’s regular season ended on a sour note — but luckily it hasn’t impacted them in the USCHO or NPI rankings this week. The Nittany Lions beat up on the Minnesota Gophers early last week, with a final score of 6-2, but they suffered a decisive 5-2 loss to the consensus best team in the nation, the Michigan Wolverines this past weekend.
Despite the late-season scuffle, Penn State is still in great shape for the NCAA tournament , having already clinched a spot while they wait for the rest of the field to be filled out. They also saw no movement in this week’s updated USCHO top-20 rankings, remaining at No. 10 after an uneven week that saw the team go 1-1 against conference opponents.

com (@USCHO) March 16, 2026 This should be a welcome sight for the team after going 1-4 in the final two weeks of the season. However, they were dominating the field for much of the season, so they should still feel confident knowing they can hold their own against anyone in their path.
