Nick has been a 49ers star defenseman since being selected second overall by the team in the 2019 NFL Draft. Joey was selected third overall by the San Diego Chargers (now the Los Angeles Chargers) in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Joey, who played nine seasons with the Chargers and earned five Pro Bowl nods, remains unsigned as an unrestricted free agent after playing for the Buffalo Bills last season where he started 15 games and recorded five sacks and five forced fumbles. The last time the brothers played together was in high school in 2012. Despite each playing for Ohio State, their time as Buckeyes never crossed (Joey played from 2013–2015 before leaving for the NFL, while Nick arrived on campus in 2016).
