Grimsby Town boss David Artell says the future of midfielder George McEachran remains unclear.
Grimsby Town boss David Artell has said the future of midfielder George McEachran remains unclear. McEachran, 25, was the Mariners' player of the season for 2024-25 but is out of contract in the summer. Artell revealed in January that McEachran had asked to "bide his time" over the club's offer to open talks on a new deal.
"We know George's position and he knows ours," Artell told BBC Radio Humberside before Tuesday's League Two game against Fleetwood. "If we knew definitively one way or the other, we could plan, but that's fine. "It's his prerogative and we fully respect that.
" McEachran joined Grimsby in July 2024 and has made 89 appearances, scoring twice. Artell has now hinted developments may hinge on whether the club is promoted to League One and the sort of budget he has next season, adding: "George has been really honest with us and we've told him our situation. That's where we're at.
" Meanwhile, Evan Khouri, who suffered a knee injury against Salford City on 4 March, saw a specialist on Monday to determine whether he may need an operation. Artell also confirmed the club will consider whether to request the postponements of League Two games against Cambridge United and Chesterfield because of international call-ups. Geza Turi (Faroe Islands), Jude Soonsup-Bell (Thailand) and Clarke Oduor (Kenya) have all bee named in their national team's squads for the upcoming international break.
