Things go from bad to worse at Chelsea. Fresh on the heels of two defeats in a week and news of a record breaking fine and a transfer ban, the Blues have added some bad injury news to the mix. It had been noted that Reece James wasn’t with the group at the open training session at Cobham today, but we were hoping this was just part of his modified training plan to keep him fit.
However the latest news coming from Cobham is that the club captain has suffered a hamstring injury. James suffers brutal setback in run up to World Cup Simon Johnson of the Athletic has just Tweeted that James could be out for “several weeks” with this issue. He’s been fit and well for over a year now, but the exertions of last week were clearly too much for him.
Johnson claims this is the 10th hamstring problem James has had since December 2020, and it ends his longest consistent run of fitness since then. For James, there are other things at stake too. He looked set to finally get a World Cup as England’s right back, and will be praying that this problem doesn’t end up being worse than suspected so that he can be back playing in time to prove his fitness for Thomas Tuchel before the season is out.
