Revive Lakers' Golden Era: Reign in Retro Glory!
A look at Bill Hewitt's time with the Lakers.
Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. During the Lakers' 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
In 1968, the Lakers took Bill Hewitt, a 6-foot-7 forward, out of the University of Southern California with the No. 11 pick in the NBA draft. In one and a half seasons with them, he averaged 6.
4 points and five rebounds in 20. 3 minutes a game before being traded to the Detroit Pistons. Hewitt stayed with Detroit through the 1971-72 campaign, and he then played two more seasons, one with the Buffalo Braves and one with the Chicago Bulls.
He retired with career averages of 5. 7 points and 5. 5 rebounds in 20.
