Stars Shine as Ferriday Prepares for Sweet Victory in Regional Playoffs!
East Iberville comeback comes up short in Division IV Non-Select Championship game against Ferriday at LHSAA Marsh Madness in Lake Charles.
LAKE CHARLES — The 2025-26 East Iberville High School basketball team made history as the first boys' team to reach the championship finals, but a title was not a guarantee. The Tigers made a big comeback attempt in the second half, but struggles in the first quarter led Ferriday to a 59-55 victory over EIHS in the Division IV Non-Select championship game Friday during the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Marsh Madness at Burton Coliseum. A 23-point rally put East Iberville within two points of Ferriday when sophomore guard Jordan Scharnett Jr.
aced a 3-point goal that put the Tigers within one goal of a tie with less than a minute remaining in regulation. Ferriday senior C. J.
Washington sealed the Trojan victory with a 2-for-2 showing at the free throw line with 24 seconds left in the game. Two more Washington free throws in the last 2. 8 seconds shut the door on one final comeback try for the Tigers.
The Trojans rallied to an 18-7 lead in the first quarter that put the Tigers in a hole before senior Collin Banks’s layup snapped the EIHS scoring drought. Six Tiger turnovers in the opening quarter also played a key role in Ferriday’s early advantage. EIHS managed to outscore Ferriday by one point in the second quarter, but the rally in the opening quarter enabled FHS to lead 24-14 at halftime.
