As the Philadelphia 76ers move forward with their season, they have some reasonable goals for second-year forward Justin Edwards.

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers are in a position moving forward where they need second-year forward Justin Edwards to step up and produce for this group. The Sixers are dealing with a ton of injuries, once again, and are in need of the other players on the roster to step up and produce. Edwards has done his part as he has scored 19 points and 21 points in his previous two games, respectively.

He knocked down three triples in Sunday's win over the Portland Trail Blazers and was a key part in Philadelphia being able to close that game out down the stretch. It has been an up-and-down season for Edwards, but coach Nick Nurse continues to believe in him and he has laid out some reasonable goals for the Philadelphia native as the season goes down the stretch. "So, I mean, my goal for him would be to be a really good defender," Nurse said after the win over the Blazers.

"A guy you can really count on defensively. I think he works at it. I just think he's a little young to be great at it yet, because he just--he kind of goes through guarding a whole bunch of different guys and a whole bunch of different scenarios and stuff, and I want him to be a super high percentage 3-point shooter.

Again, you guys hear me talk about, his mechanics are fantastic, his work ethic is fantastic, and it should just be a matter of time before he's that guy. " To Nurse's point, the Sixers could absolutely use a much more aggressive Edwards and look to him to give them production on both ends of the floor. He just quickly became one of the most important players on this roster and he will need to play like it the rest of the way--or at least until Paul George returns on March 25 from his suspension.
