Both Andy Enfield and Ohio State are making it to the Elite Eight!
Both the Trojans’ former coach and their current coach’s former school will be playing in March Madness, while USC will not. That is not ideal
Two years ago, USC was involved in one of the more dramatic coaching carousels in recent college basketball history. After head coach Andy Enfield departed for SMU, the Trojans hired Eric Musselman away from Arkansas. The Razorbacks subsequently made a big splash, hiring longtime Kentucky coach John Calipari.
Each of those coaches is now two years in at their new school. And while it is certainly still two early to make final judgements, the results thus far are not great for USC. After taking Arkansas to the Sweet 16 last season, Calipari just won the SEC Tournament, and appears primed for another March run.
Enfield, meanwhile, just made his first NCAA Tournament at SMU. The Mustangs snuck into the field as one of the final teams and will face Miami (Ohio) in the First Four on Wednesday. As for USC?
For the second year in a row, the Trojans did not even come close to making the NCAA Tournament. USC had absolutely brutal injury luck to is year, but the fact of the matter is that Musselman’s tenure in Los Angeles has been extremely disappointing thus far. Musselman still has time to turn things around at USC.
