Texas A&M softball opened SEC play with a road series win at LSU, powered by two clutch games from Mya Perez and a tense Game 2 finish.

After navigating a demanding and competitive nonconference slate, the Texas A&M softball team finally got a chance to reset before opening SEC play on the road against LSU. Consistency has been elusive for the Aggies this season. Ranked wins have been scarce — just 1–7 against top‑25 opponents — and losses to a pair of mid‑majors have stung.

Yet at their best, A&M has looked every bit like a top‑25 program, stacking seven run‑rule victories and flashing the firepower expected from a postseason contender. The trip to Baton Rouge offered a prime opportunity to set the tone in league play against a familiar and spirited rival. Both teams entered the weekend with something to prove.

LSU was reeling after being swept by No. 1 Tennessee, while the Aggies were eager to show they could compete inside the conference. A&M delivered early, taking Game 1 , 7–2, for its first SEC win of the year.

Game 2: Perez powers early lead, defense carries it home Game 2 opened with a similar script. The Aggies struck first, as All‑American Mya Perez launched a two‑run home run to give A&M an early advantage. From there, the matchup tightened into a defensive duel, with both teams trading scoreless frames until the sixth.
