Denver Broncos Take Home AFC Title!
Oopsie!
The New York Giants defeated the Denver Broncos 39-20 in Super Bowl XXI at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California Jan. 25, 1987. While there are still many of us who say it’s still too soon to pick at the scab that is the Broncos Super Bowl XXI loss to the New York Giants in Pasadena’s Rose Bowl, I promise this won’t bring back too many bad memories of that fateful day in January of 1987.
I thought that everything there was to know about the game, I already knew. Yes, John Elway and the Broncos engineered a legendary AFC Championship comeback win over the Browns that now lives in infamy as “The Drive” to get there. No, it didn’t go well once they did get there, losing 39-20, in what was the first of three crushing Super Bowl losses in the 1980’s.
So what’s this about a handgun? View this post on Instagram This People Magazaine article credits a police officer for losing the gun after scuffling with a fan who had run out onto the field. Perhaps a Giants fan, all spun up by the glory that was Phil Simms at the time?
Cheers to Phil McConkey (how many guys were named Phil on that team?! ) for having the presence of mind to pause his celebration to bring the situation to the attention of security. So, there you have it, folks!
