This week all the Marsh Madness came to an end as boys basketball season closed out for teams hailing from the 337. Northside boys basketball was the last area team standing after 32 teams entered the postseason. While the Vikings made history on the court, spring sports continues with teams entering district play.
With the postseason for winter sports in full swing and spring sports kicking off, there were plenty of athletes to choose from for this week’s Athlete of the Week poll. Here are the nominations for the athlete of the week for March 9-15, which includes athletes from boys basketball, baseball and softball. Voting will close at 9 a.
m. Friday. (Athletes listed in alphabetical order) Aubree Bourque, softball, Southside: In the Sharks district matchup against Acadiana, Bourque never faltered.
The sophomore came through clutch for her team in the bottom of the sixth inning hitting a double for two RBIs. That hit helped Southside beat the Wreckin’ Rams 7-6. Saige Cherry, softball, Iota: All season long, Cherry has been a go-to weapon for the Bulldogs and she’s helped them to a 13-6 record so far this season.
