Guernsey's Next Big Thing Takes the Crown in Bexhill With Phenomenal Performance!
Guernsey FC have won 10 of their past 11 games [Fran Torode] Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says he is unhappy with the application of his side as they narrowly beat Bexhill United 3-2 at Victoria Park. The win over their mid-table opponents leaves the Green Lions third in the Southern Combination Premier Division, five points off leaders Haywards Heath Town and Steyning Town. Guernsey started excellently as forwards Sam Murray and Will Fazakerley put them 2-0 up after 12 minutes.
But Will Saunders pulled a 25th-minute goal back for the visitors before Jack Shonk made it 2-2 just before half-time. However, Callum Le Lacheur got what proved to be the winner five minutes after the break as Guernsey held on, despite missing a number of key players due to the Under 21 Muratti with Jersey. "We just about got over the line," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.
"Before the game we asked for us to start strongly and I thought we did that, in the first 10-15 minutes we did what we've been aiming to do all season, what we work on, what we practise and we got two goals from it. "Unfortunately we decided then to get the cigars out and just try and sort of chill and enjoy a nice sunny day and and not do the things we demand, we train for, we work on and what got us two goals. "The tempo then closes down, they get a little bit more comfortable themselves so they get themselves a toe in the game and then because we've lost that impetus you lose your way from it and and then they get back in the game with sloppy goals.
" Green Lions boosted by Loaring return Matt Loaring has played more games for Guernsey FC than any other player [Fran Torode] But Guernsey were boosted by the return of veteran midfielder Matt Loaring. The 35-year-old has missed the whole season due to a knee injury but has recovered after having minor surgery at the end of last year. He played the first 75 minutes of the match and impressed Vance.
"It's brilliant to have Matt back," he said. "He's been really gagging to get out there, it's great to name him in the starting side and we'll get him up to speed. "He'll get himself up to speed as well, it a completely different game to when he last played in terms of what we're trying to achieve.
