Premier League Awards – Monster Mavropanos, Dowman Delights Our Premier League Weekly Awards feature Max Dowman’s record-breaking moment and West Ham’s fast-emerging cult hero Konstantinos Mavropanos. Moment of the Week Each title run-in has definitive moments, and was this weekend one for Arsenal? The three points looked in danger of slipping away from the Gunners, as a valiant Everton frustrated the league leaders at the Emirates – and spurned chances to win it.

With time running out, Mikel Arteta threw on his wildcard and was rewarded. Max Dowman’s introduction changed the game , with the 16-year-old’s teasing cross leading to the opener on 89 minutes, before the teenager tore away on the counter-attack to score a second in stoppage time. Dowman’s goal, filled with composure and drive, made him the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

What a moment for the youngster, whose future looks bright. After Manchester City dropped points later in the night, Arsenal’s lead is now 10. A first title in over two decades is edging closer.

Player of the Week Konstantinos Mavropanos is in the midst of a remarkable redemption arc at West Ham. The centre-back was consigned to the flop folder after an underwhelming start at the London Stadium, but has emerged as a crucial figure under Nuno Espirito Santo. Mavropanos was magnificent in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City, a result that extended the club’s run to one defeat in six Premier League games.

He made 10 clearances and blocked four shots with some heroic last-ditch defending, while thumping home the equaliser from Jarrod Bowen’s corner. West Ham need more of this to survive, but Mavropanos is fast becoming a cult hero. If his – and West Ham’s performances continue, the Hammers have enough to escape trouble.
