After a full slate of Vermont high school state championships on Sunday at Gutterson Fieldhouse , the Division II boys hockey final saved the most drama for last. Top-seed Harwood scored in double overtime to beat No. 2 U-32, 4-3, to win the Division II state title, capping off a game that provided plenty of theatrics and heroic moments in the final game of the winter season.
โIt's exciting, nerve wracking, so emotional. I'm just so proud of the kids,โ said Harwood coach Matt Migonis. โI had faith they would figure it out and they did, which was awesome.
โ More: Rice boys hockey storms to championship three-peat in Division I Milo Lavit got the game-winner for the Highlanders on the power play, gathering a bouncing puck in the high slot that he rifled top corner to lift Harwood to its second title in a row, both coming over rival U-32. โIt's such a privilege to go out that way my senior season and with an OT winner,โ Lavit said. โI mean, it's something you dream about when you're a kid playing knee hockey and to fulfill that is awesome.
โ It is the fifth D-II title for the Highlanders, who finish the season with a 19-4 record. It took some third-period dramatics to force the overtime after U-32 scored midway through the second period to grab a 3-1 lead. โI knew that they had a good game plan and they did.
