New Headline: Eddie Genborg Lights Up Grand Rapids Griffins' Rivalry with Stunning Performance!
Detroit – The Red Wings are bringing in some reinforcements for their minor-league affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins. The Wings signed forward Eddie Genborg to a three-year entry-level contract Sunday, beginning with the 2026-27 season. Genborg, 18, will report to Grand Rapids on an amateur tryout for the rest of this season.
Genborg spent the 2025-26 season with Timra IK in the Swedish Elite League, posting 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) in 43 games, with a plus-eight rating and 24 penalty minutes. Genborg's 25 points were the third-most among age under-20 skaters in the Sweden's top men's pro league. More: After picking up big point, Red Wings head into important homestand Genborg, a physical 6-foot-2, 198-pound winger, was part of Sweden's 2026 world junior championship gold medal-winning team, recording eight points (three goals, five assists) in seven games, with a plus-seven rating.
The Wings selected Genborg in June's 2025 NHL Draft, with the 48th overall pick in the second round. Getting Genborg will provide a needed lift for the Griffins, who've seen their lineup picked apart with the Wings calling up four forwards last week because of injuries to the Wings' roster. tkulfan@detroitnews.
