Sports Rage Escalates as Team USA Sinks in Women's World Cup Finals Due to Fouls
The United States advanced to the World Baseball Classic Final off an incredibly iffy strikeout call that ended the game.
The World Baseball Classic has not been without controversy, but Sunday night's botched strikeout call is absolutely the biggest moment of the tournament. Coming into the bottom of the ninth inning, the United States held a 2-1 lead over the Dominican Republic with pitcher Mason Miller set to face the final batters of the night. The Dominican Republic was down to the final out but had the tying run at third base, so the pressure was on.
Batter Geraldo Perdomo was facing a full count after fouling off a handful of balls when on the deciding pitch, he was called out looking on a ball that was ... very much not in the strike zone. Here's how the moment played out on the broadcast, as thanks to the automated ball and strike challenge system not being implemented in the World Baseball Classic , the botched call ended the game as the United States advanced to the Final.
The Dominican Republic could have really used the ABS. The USA hangs on and advances to the WBC Final! โพ๏ธ๐ฎโโ๏ธ #WBC pic.
