Thrilled Phoenix Prospects Fuel Up Next Season With Epic Games!

Roster depth is one of the more important things to build during the NFL offseason, and good teams ensure they have enough of it. For teams with championship aspirations like the Philadelphia Eagles, finding players who can fill multiple roles will make a significant difference over the course of a full season. One player who could fit that description is Michael Carter II, who reconstructed his contract to stay in Philadelphia.

According to Anthony Miller of FanSided, Carter could be a valuable signing for the Eagles as they continue shaping their defensive backfield for the future. Carter joined Philadelphia during the 2025 season after being acquired in a trade from the New York Jets. At the time, the move was viewed as a depth piece, and it was.

Carter’s playing time was somewhat limited during his first stretch with the Eagles. He played, but it wasn’t like he was on the field during every snap. However, Miller noted that Carter could see a bigger role in the future.

“Carter was brought in midway through the 2025 season in a trade from the New York Jets. He did not play often as he was on the field for 20% of the defensive snaps, racking up 10 tackles in eight games. Everyone thought he was just a backup nickel for Cooper DeJean and someone who gives them depth at the corner position.

“One interesting comment Eagles general manager Howie Roseman made after they traded for Carter was that they looked at him as depth at the safety position. This might be where that move pays off for the Eagles, as Carter could step in for 2026 and start at safety. It all makes sense now why Philly kept him on the roster and worked with him to restructure his contract to save the team money against the cap, instead of cutting him and saving $8.
