Dunk Derby Heat Builds as Fans Rally for Their Favorite Dunks!

Athletes from schools like North DeSoto, Huntington, Magnet, Northwood, Airline, Haughton, Benton, Shreve and North Caddo on the ballot.

Voting is now open online for The Shreveport Times High School Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s, the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission and Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics, which includes student-athletes in Louisiana high school sports other than football from 15 northwest Louisiana schools. Fans of those students, their schools or their particular sport can vote at shreveporttimes. com under “sports” for their favorite.

Voting will continue through Thursday night with the winner announced Saturday. Weekly winners will receive a backpack, a boxed lunch combo and some additional swag courtesy of Raising Cane’s and Cosse and Silmon, along with a short feature story on their accomplishments, courtesy of The Times. Previously we announced a football, volleyball and cheerleader preseason fan’s choice athlete of the year.

Those include Caddo Magnet’s Violet Collier as Preseason Volleyball Player of the Year, Plain Dealing’s Jeremy Fisher as Preseason Football Player of the Year and Captain Shreve’s Zaria Hall as Cheerleader of the Year. On the Week 28 ballot for the 2025-26 school year are Chauncey Wilkins, Huntington track; Lyric Spencer, North DeSoto track; Jack Patillio, Caddo Magnet track; NaSiyah Collins, North Caddo track; Justin Thomas, Northwood track; Jack Henry Smith, Airline baseball; Colby Donaldson, Parkway baseball; Nick Shelton, Calvary basketball; Jabari Levingston, Lincoln Prep basketball; Brianna Benecke, Haughton softball; Bayleigh Moniz, Benton softball; Grace Wren, St. Mary’s softball; Jade Jones, Stanley softball; Ella Hendrick, Captain Shreve softball and Joley Bennett, D’Arbonne Woods softball.
