Marwan Rahiki took no pleasure in breaking Harry Hardwick's jaw at Saturday's UFC Vegas 114.
LAS VEGAS – Marwan Rahiki's first UFC win was made more vicious and brutal, keeping in mind the time of damage he dished out. Rahiki (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made his UFC debut this past Saturday in the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 269 (Paramount+) – which took place at the Meta APEX. He took home an extra $100,000 for Fight of the Night in his wild brawl against Harry Hardwick.
However, unlike your usual Fight of the Night, the bout didn't go the distance. It was stopped in between Round 2 and 3 due to what looked like a nasty jaw break from Hardwick (13-4-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) – something Rahiki takes no pride in. "It's a hard sport, and we damage each other, but I don't want to break someone's jaw and send them to hospitals and stuff," Rahiki told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the UFC Fight Night 269 post-fight press conference.
"I'd rather have a quick knockout or a submission, and they're going to get up and be like, 'Oh, thank you, thank you,' and go home, go to their families with not much damage. I want to get a knockout and finish, but I don't want to hurt people too much. That's not my goal.
That's not who I am. I'm a peaceful person. I look for peace.
