Heroic Batting Stuns Wildcard Team in Thrilling Win Over Vols!

By Kari AndersonYahoo Sports

In the top of the ninth, a two-out grab at the wall led to an awkward moment for the Volunteers.

Georgia defeated Tennessee in SEC play on Sunday after a catch at the wall abruptly brought the game to an end — much to the chagrin of the Volunteers, who had already started celebrating. At the top of the ninth inning, with two out and down on run, Tennessee pinch hitter Stone Lawless had a chance to save the game with a much-needed lead. And he took it: On the second pitch, Lawless connected with the ball, sending it flying into deep right field, and towards the fence for a two-run go-ahead home run.

One problem: It wasn’t a home run. As the ball arced towards the wall, Georgia outfielder Cole Johnson was there to nab it. The fly out was the third and final out for the Volunteers, with the Bulldogs ending the game right then and there.

Teammate Jay Abernathy, on deck at the time, could be seen jumping and yelling in delight. Instead, the game was just…over.
