Volunteers Take Early Lead, Dominating Georgia in SEC Play
Georgia comes back to win opening SEC series versus Tennessee baseball.
No. 8 Georgia (17-4, 2-1 SEC) defeated No. 21 Tennessee (14-6, 1-2 SEC), 8-7, Sunday at Foley Field in Athens, Georgia.
The Bulldogs came from behind to win the final game and claim a SEC baseball series. Georgia scored five runs in the seventh inning, and its rally was highlighted by a three-run home run by designated hitter Bryce Calloway. The Vols led, 3-0, in the first inning after Reese Chapman hit a two-run double and Manny Marin had a RBI single.
Tennessee extended its advantage to, 5-0, in the third inning after Henry Ford hit a two-run home run. The Bulldogs pulled to within, 5-2, on a two-run single by Tre Phelps in the fifth inning. Georgia added a run in the sixth inning after Brennan Hudson hit a solo home run, making the score, 5-3, before Marin's scoring single extended Tennessee's advantage to, 6-3.
Blake Grimmer hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, making the score, 8-7. He went 2-for-3, recording one home run, one RBI and one run. Chapman went 2-for-5.
