Trevor Mullin led Yale with 22 points. Ivy League Player of the Year Nick Townsend, forward Isaac Celiscar and guard Casey Simmons all had 17 for the Bulldogs. Yale (24-6, 11-3/Ivy) had won the Ivy League regular season title for the second straight year and entered the Ivy League tournament as the top seed.
Penn (18-11, 9-5) was the No. 3 seed. The Quakers earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, their first since 2018.
