Navratilova's Genius Reclaims Indian Wells Title
Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images Martina Navratilova has offered some advice to Novak Djokovic following his defeat to Jack Draper, suggesting a change in approach that could extend his career and boost his chances in major tournaments. While he showed flashes of brilliance during the tournament, Djokovic was ultimately outlasted by Draper, who was still working his way back from injury. Navratilova questioned this approach during a live segment on Sky Sports and suggested a different path forward for the Serbian star.

Instead, she suggested a more aggressive approach if he wants to stay competitive and chase titles. That mindset didn’t show up against Draper earlier this week.
Navratilova had previously drawn parallels between Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka earlier in the week and continued to reference the Serbian star in her analysis. She pointed out that, given his age, extending matches isn’t going to work in his favour. Djokovic needs to play more aggressively if he wants to contend for titles again, something she felt was missing against Draper.
Navratilova explained: “I think he’s at that age where he needs to keep the points shorter. He can still tire people out, but that should not be the goal. “That should be a byproduct of how he is playing, rather than looking for playing defence and tiring people out, running him side to side, because now he’s tiring himself out.
” She added: “You have to give a nod to Father Time eventually, and I think he needs to shorten up the points rather than hoping that he will tire his opponent out. ” Navratilova had compared Djokovic to Aryna Sabalenka earlier this week, interestingly enough. She continued: The Miami Open gives Djokovic a great chance for another title run While Novak Djokovic hasn’t had much success at Indian Wells in recent years, Miami has been a different story throughout his career.
