Richarlison rescues a point for Spurs late on at Anfield Richarlison rescues a point for Spurs against Liverpool at Anfield in their bid to stay in the Premier League. Dominik Szoboszlai’s first-half free kick was the difference between the sides and possibly the only bit of real quality of the match until Richarlison stroked the ball home in the 89th minute. Although Spurs earned a point, the game exposed the weaknesses that have stunted both sides throughout this season.
Spurs were open at the back and conceded because of a goalkeeper error, while Liverpool failed to create chances, despite Tottenham being there for the taking on numerous occassions. As expected, Liverpool started strongest and it did not take long for them to take the lead. After Archie Gray gave a away a free kick on the edge of the Spurs box, Szoboszlai had the perfect opportunity to break the deadlock.
Just as he had done against Arsenal and Manchester City already this season, the Hugarian arrowed a strike into the net from a dead ball, however, Guglielmo Vicario should have just done much better with it. Liverpool would continue their ascendancy throughout the half as Cody Gakpo had a shot come back off of the post and Virgil Van Dijk flashed a ball across the six yard box that nobody was able to tap home. However, Spurs did have chances in the first half, the biggest two falling to Richarlison.
The first one was a free header in the area that the Brazilian only managed to put just wide. The second was another headed chance just before the break which was saved comfortably by Alisson. The second half began, much as the first had finished, with Liverpool pushing Spurs back.
