The No. 5 Auburn Tigers kicked off SEC play in a big way by sweeping Missouri on the road.

Auburn baseball opened SEC play in a major way by earning its first road sweep of a conference opponent since 2010. The No. 5 Auburn Tigers followed their dramatic 2-0 win over Missouri on Friday by topping Missouri in a Saturday doubleheader, 4-3 and 9-2, respectively, to sweep the series.

Auburn's series sweep over Missouri was critical as the home-standing Tigers entered the game with a 13-game winning streak. However, the road gets tougher for Auburn as they welcome No. 2 Texas to Plainsman Park for a three-game series beginning next Friday.

โ€œAll around, the guys continued to play tough and hard for us," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said Saturday. "This might not have been our best weekend series of playing baseball, but weโ€™re in this league now, and itโ€™s going to be a grind and itโ€™s going to be a fight. โ€ Missouri erased a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the 8th inning of Saturday's first game to force extra innings.

The first two baserunners of the extra frame reached base, setting up Chase Fralick with an RBI opportunity. He took advantage by sneaking the baseball down the right field line to score Cade Belyeu from 2nd base to push Auburn ahead, 4-3. Auburn pitcher Ryan Hetzler followed suit by retiring Missouri in order in the 10th inning, which included striking out the final two batters.
