Second half United started the second half with an upbeat tempo, and Amad had an effort that ballooned over after good combination work with Bryan Mbeumo. The Red Devils kept up the pace, and Fernandes played Mbeumo through on goal, but his effort was well stopped by Martinez.
Michael Carrick’s side finally got their reward when Casemiro headed in Fernandes’ corner to give United what could be a potentially massive lead. Villa naturally stepped up the intensity, and Tyrone Mings headed over from a free kick when left alone in the penalty area. Dalot once again broke the Villa defensive line, but he could only shoulder the ball into Martinez’s hands after a fantastic ball by Casemiro.
