With sold-out merchandise and over 30,000 fans the Legacy's debut put it on solid footing with fans despite 1-0 loss.

They cheered, they chanted and they embraced the Boston Legacy, which made its debut as a National Women’s Soccer League expansion franchise on Saturday. “These fans were awesome.

I felt their energy. I felt their support,” Legacy goalie Casey Murphy said. “I felt a lot of pride repping Boston.

” Against Gotham FC, the defending NWSL champs, the Legacy didn’t pull off a stunning upset. But they weren’t overmatched either. The 1-0 loss was a decision, not a knockout.
