Kenneth Gainwell: Steelers’ Big Ben’s High-Risk Options Unpromising!
Kenneth Gainwell was the Steelers MVP last season but admitted he wanted to sign with Tampa Bay instead.
Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers ' best offseason addition turned out to be running back Kenneth Gainwell. Gainwell joined the Steelers from the Philadelphia Eagles and finished the year with 1,656 total yards, earning team MVP honors. Gainwell was playing on a one-year contract, and he parlayed his huge season into a two-year, $14 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
When Gainwell addressed the media as a member of the Bucs, he made a startling admission that he had hoped he would sign with the Buccaneers last season over the Steelers. “It was a great option for me,” Gainwell said. “I wanted to be here last year, but you know, I am just happy to be here now.
It was a great opportunity for me back in the South where I am from and just come here. ” Gainwell did note that he was happy for the opportunity to shine in Pittsburgh, and show that he was capable of, but based on his tone, it definitely felt like he was in Pittsburgh more as an audition for his next team and not in his long-term plans.
