UCLA Outfields Dominate, Seal 2-0 Victory Over Michigan
UCLA baseball's bullpen shutout Michigan in their second game of the series at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The No. 1 UCLA Bruins baseball team hung onto their first inning lead to defeat Michigan with a 2-0 shutout in their second game of the series at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday. UCLA's batters had plenty of struggles dealing with the Wolverines pitching staff, but their Bruins arms were able to give Michigan an even tougher time.
The Bruins had four pitchers throw, allowing four hits, four walks, a wild pitch, three batters hit by pitches and 12 strikeouts against 38 Wolverine batters over the nine innings. In the top of the first, senior starting pitcher Michael Barnett was able to hold the Wolverines scoreless, with the Bruins scoring two-runs off of a double hit to left field by junior outfielder Will Gasparino. That was it for the scoring.
Both teams were held scoreless for the rest of the game, but Michigan was on the cusp of scoring at least one run in the top of the sixth. The Wolverines had two outs and the bases loaded, but sophomore pitcher Wylan Moss was able to closeout the inning with a strikeout. Moss was able to closeout another work another inning with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but this time he got out of it with a fly out to centerfielder to keep the Bruins ahead.
UCLA was able to keep the Wolverines off base in the eighth and were able to prevent runners from getting to third in the top of the ninth for the win. UCLA has won the first two games of their Michigan series and will play their finale at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Sunday with an anticipated start time of 1 p. m.
