The Tygers lost to the Toledo Central Catholic Fighting Irish 81-61 in the Division III regional championship on Saturday, March 14, at the University of Toledo to bring an end to a 19-8 season and a magical tournament run. It was the first regional championship appearance since 2014.
And Sykes fells like the 2025-26 Tygers put Mansfield Senior boys basketball back on the map with a deep tournament run where they had an opportunity to play for a regional championship after 12 years of not even sniffing a district title. “Our guys put in a lot of work over the last few months to get to this point. There was a point in the year I didn’t think this was possible. The guys grinded it out, came together and worked hard to put ourselves in a position to win a regional championship.
It has been a lot of fun and we are hopefully we can get right back here next season. ” The Tygers are a program with some of the highest expectations in the entire state and trips to regional tournaments were the norm back in their hay day and Sykes sees this season as the start of the return of Tyger Basketball. “It’s been a gradual growth,” Sykes said.
