St. John’s went on a 10-0 run to open the game, going up by as many as 17 points in the first half. The Huskies came out of the locker room with a lot more vigor, pulling back within seven points behind a hot start to the second half.
But that momentum slipped away, as the Red Storm pulled back to a dominant lead — and the Huskies began to fall further and further down. UConn went 1-for-15 down the final stretch. UConn head coach Dan Hurley picked up an early tech after exchanging words with the officials just seven-and-a-half minutes into the game.
