Houston Rocket’s DeMarre Carroll Makes History as First Black Player Inducted into NBA Hall of Fame
The Houston Rockets have had players donning a total of 52 different jersey numbers (and have one not part of any numerical series for Houston assistant coach and general manager Carroll Dawson) since their founding at the start of the 1967-68 season, worn by just under 500 players in the course of Rockets history. And for today's article, we will continue with the 16th of 20 who wore the No. 9, forward alum DeMarre Carroll. After ending his college career at Missouri, Carroll was picked up with the 27th overall selection of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Birmingham, Alabama native played parts of the first two seasons of his pro career with Memphis, coming to an end when he was dealt to the Houston Rockets in 2011. His first stay with the team lasted until he was cut that year, with stops with the Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, and San Antonio Spurs before finishing his career in Houston in 2020.
