Pittsburgh brought back former Steelers punter Cameron Johnston and in response, last year's starter Corliss Waitman signed with the 49ers

With former Pittsburgh Steelers special teams coordinator Danny Smith in Tampa Bay now, the Steelers have been making some wholesale changes on special teams. First we saw former All-Pro Miles Killebrew follow Smith to the Bucs and now last year's starting punter Corliss Waitman is off to the San Francisco 49ers. Waitman handled the punting duties for the Steelers each of the last two seasons.

He averaged 41. 8 yards per punt during those season. Waitman and Johnston were in a heated training camp battle in Pittsburgh that Johnston won.

However, Johnston suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week One of the season and Waitman was brough back to replace him. With Johnson back on a one-year contract, Wait was able to explore free agency and found a new home with the 49ers. Last season, the Niners turned to 43-year-old Thomas Morstead, but are making a change.
