The Fishers Freight opened the 2026 Indoor Football League season with a 45-27 victory over the Quad City Steamwheelers on Saturday night at the Fishers Event Center. Freight quarterback Felix Harper threw for two touchdowns — both to CJ Windham — and ran for another to beat the reigning Eastern Conference champions. Fishers controlled the game for much of the second half.
Steamwheelers quarterback Daquan Neal threw for four touchdowns with a pair of interceptions. Fishers defensive back Marcus Gray then came up with one of the biggest defensive plays of the game, sacking Neal for a safety and a 40-27 advantage.
A Fishers field goal by Calum Sutherland stretched the lead to 16 with 3:58 left. Sutherland then picked up another two points when he booted the kickoff through the uprights, giving the Freight a 45-27 lead. The Freight took a 31-27 lead into the final quarter in a back-and-forth game that is typical of the league.
The Freight led 24-20 at the half on a 1-yard TD run by Harper, who also threw for a touchdown in the first half. Neal threw for three of his TDs in the first half.
