WVEC-TV The championship matchups are set at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament, and while the Norfolk State men will not be playing for a title, the Spartans women are one win away from history. Norfolk State defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 59โ€“47 on Friday to advance to the MEAC championship game and keep its bid for a fourth consecutive conference title alive. The second-seeded Hawks controlled the early tempo, capitalizing on a sluggish start from the Spartans in a physical semifinal matchup.

Norfolk State struggled to find a rhythm in the first half, committing 15 turnovers. But the Spartans began to settle in during the second quarter. Dabrya Clark helped spark the offense from long range, knocking down a three-pointer to get Norfolk State moving in the right direction.

Jasha Clinton led the Spartans with 19 points and shot 2-for-5 from beyond the arc. Cire Worley also heated up in the second half, hitting three 3-pointers while shooting 50% from deep and finishing with 15 points. The win sends Norfolk State to the MEAC title game for the first time under head coach Jermaine Woods.

After the game, Clinton reflected on the moment and the personal significance of reaching the championship. โ€œI think going to the championship is personal for me because Iโ€™ve changed a lot,โ€ Clinton said. โ€œMy teammates right now donโ€™t really know the past Jasha, so for me itโ€™s just a big change.

Iโ€™m just happy to get to the championship and be this new person that I am for my daughter. โ€ Norfolk State will face Howard in the championship game Saturday. Howard advanced earlier in the day with a commanding 65โ€“50 victory over Coppin State.
