Potential SF Move Seeded by Punter!

The San Francisco 49ers didn't have a punter on their roster after Thomas Morstead hit free agency. That was until they signed one on Saturday.

The San Francisco 49ers were set to enter the offseason with all three members of their kicking battery from the 2025 season hitting free agency. However, after re-signing long snapper Jon Weeks and kicker Eddy Pineiro , they just needed to figure out their punting situation. On Saturday, the 49ers did just that, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the team signed Corliss Waitman to replace Thomas Morstead.

Waitman, 30, played at South Alabama from 2014-18 before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He's had three stints with the Steelers, including from 2024-25. He's also had stops with the Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears.

In his career, he's appeared in 52 games and punted the pass 230 times, averaging 46. 4 yards and 41. 7 net yards per boot.

He's put 36. 5% of his punts inside the 20-yard line. More 49ers: 49ers 2026 free agency tracker: Latest news, rumors and signings This article originally appeared on Niners Wire: NFL free agency: 49ers sign punter Corliss Waitman for 2026
