Here's how Chandler Bing and Vanderbilt basketball reacted to breaking the rim in the SEC tournament semifinal win over Florida.
Chandler Bing had never seen a dunk that broke the rim before. So it was to his surprise when he dunked early in the second half of Vanderbilt basketball's SEC tournament semifinal March 14 against top-seeded Florida (26-7) — and caused an equipment delay. Bing didn't feel anything break when he hung on to the rim, but when he came down he saw a piece from the rim on the floor.
Referees briefly delayed the game while they examined the court and the hoop to ensure that everything was safe, then the game resumed. No. 4 seed Vanderbilt (26-7) won the game 91-74 to advance to the SEC tournament final at Bridgestone Arena.
Bing finished with seven points, three rebounds and a block. "I was not expecting it," Bing said. "I thought I had a pretty good dunk.
And then I'm looking back and I see a part of the goal, the rim is on the ground. I was like, hey, great. Hey, look, that'll just turn us up even more.
