UCLA softball won their first game of their Michigan State series with a 10-0 shutout at Easton Stadium.

UCLA softball started off their series against Michigan State with a 10-0 shutout at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday. The Bruins played their best ball against the Spartans , with their bats on fire to score runs in every single inning and their defense team stingily preventing runners from moving bases. Senior pitcher Taylor Tinsley was the lone Bruin to step on the mound and she made life difficult for the Spartans batters with three hits, two walks and three strikeouts, lowering her earned run average to 2.

86 this season. Michigan State was able to get a runner on base in the top of the first, but were unable to get them home. UCLA took the opportunity to gain a strong lead as their batters swung for four hits and four runs.

In the top of the second, the Spartans improved with two runners on base thanks to a fielding error, but UCLA's defense remained stout to keep them scoreless. The Bruins responded with a two-run homer by Megan Grant to put the lead up to 6-0. UCLA added to their massive lead in the top of third with another homer, this time by Ramsey Suarez, and with the fifth inning looming around the corner, a run rule against Michigan State appeared to become more of a reality.

In the top of the fourth, Tinsley continued to stifle the Spartans batters as two got on base, but were unable to make it home. UCLA continued their offensive aggression with a two-run homer by Jordan Woolery and another homer for the final runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth by Kaniya Bragg. Michigan State attempted to get their first run of the game in the top of the fifth, but the Bruins eyed a shutout and forced a run rule.
